We are currently testing a second-generation Ambient Activity approach that employs technology allowing residents living with dementia to access and interact with appropriate and personalized experiences, memories, and activities. By utilizing interactions with touch-screen technology and software, and integrating these with tangible manipulative activities, R2G2 provides a more flexible and personalized activity experience, key to triggering memories and engaging residents with dementia.
FOLLOW THE RESEARCH
Ambient Activity Technologies Inc. is the industry partner of a multi-disciplinary team which includes participation from academia, long-term care facilities across Canada and front-line care practitioners, all committed to developing strategies to mitigate front-line caregiver distress caused by agitated behaviors in residents who live with dementia residing in LTC facilities.
R2G2 technology is now being trialed in three LTC test locations in the Greater Toronto Area. A ‘phase-two’ study will be conducted in three additional LTC test facilities located in North Simcoe County, Ontario, over the first six months of 2017. Testing, monitoring and results analysis is being conducted by Dr. Mark Chignell and his research team at the University of Toronto.
